Jacksonville Playback Theatre will perform for your support group.
JPT has performed for a variety of support groups, including groups for victims of domestic abuse, those infected/affected by HIV/AIDs, and cancer survivors, care givers, and health professionals.
A performance by JPT can help your support group by:
- Promoting healing by focusing life-affirming energy on members' experiences and growth.
- Giving voice to experiences and viewpoints that often are silenced.
- Building community when members see that others share their experiences, hopes, and fears.
- Giving your members a different insight into their life stories and those of others.
- Helping your members appreciate and understand each other's differences.
- Allowing your members to voice concerns and traumatic experiences during times of crisis.
Our performances may bring up emotions, memories, or relational problems that would be helpful to discuss. While Playback Theatre shares some elements with drama therapy, it is not therapy. However, at an additional fee, Jacksonvile Playback Theatre can meet with the members of your organization immediately following the performance. Members will be encouraged to take part in a time of processing, led by our certified mental health counselors. This will be a time for audience members to express emotions and questions raised by watching and taking part in the performance. Members with significant issues will be encouraged to seek counseling.
If you would like to discuss the scheduling of a Playback performance for your organization, please e-mail us at info@jaxplayback.com.
